TCBCC – Who We Are

The Toronto Coalition for Better Child Care (tcbcc) is a broadly based organization working to establish a comprehensive, high quality, universally accessible, non-profit, publicly funded child care system.  Our membership includes parents, early childhood educators, students, teachers, child care centres, family resource centres, and representatives from community organizations, women’s groups, trade unions and social service agencies.

What We Do
Act as a resource and support for the child care community,
Work to build a strong network of child care supporters across Toronto,
Lobby for change in child care policy at all levels of government,
Develop information campaigns on municipal child care issues,
Work with the media to raise the public profile of child care,
Produce a quarterly newsletter of upcoming events and meetings,
Maintain a web site that is up-to-date and easy to access.

Our Vision
The TCBCC recognizes the rights of both parent and child and believes that:
Each child has the right to safe, nurturing and responsive care.
Each parent has the right to earn a living or further her/his education, secure in the knowledge that quality affordable child care options exist and are accessible to them and their children.
Each early childhood professional has the right to a fair wage

We are committed to working together with the community to fight for:
a child care system that is accessible and affordable in a variety of ways
equity of access and quality for all families
a fair, first-come-first-serve waiting list for child care subsidies
no increases in user fees for parents using subsidized care
expansion of subsidized child care spaces
increases in per diems for purchase of service agencies to meet actual costs
pay equity for child care workers
   provincial accountability for cost sharing.
